MBJ Airports Limited, operators of the Sangster International Airport, has advised that the runway at the Montego Bay facility was temporarily shut down due to an emergency landing declared by an arriving flight on Saturday (March 9).

The firm noted that upon landing the aircraft was checked and the emergency was stood down.

The operational disruption, brought on by the emergency landing, resulted in some flights being delayed and some being diverted to the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston.

“We understand the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen event and extend our sincere apologies to affected passengers and airlines. Safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this time,” stated Sharon Hislop-Holt, marketing manager at MBJ Airports Limited.

Flights that were diverted to NMIA returned to Montego Bay and are scheduled to depart later that evening.
