On Saturday, October 8, 2022, Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding and his delegation departed London and travelled to Birmingham for the final leg of their UK Diaspora Tour 2022.
The delegation was received by the Jamaican Consulate in Birmingham where they met over a traditional Jamaican breakfast, with Honorary Consul Wade Lyn, Liaison Beverly Johnson and Chairman of Jamaica Diaspora UK- West Midlands, Bentley Cunningham.

The team travelled to the Legacy Centre in Birmingham for a series of policy discussions with members of the diaspora. Issues such as voting rights in Jamaica for Jamaicans in the diaspora as well as partnerships for investments were ventilated.
Lord Mayor Muhammad Afzal hosted the Delegation for afternoon tea at Council House in Victoria Square, Birmingham. There, Golding and team met with Councillor Yvonne Mosquito, Councillor Sybil Spence, Vice Lord Lieutenant Beverley Lindsay and other officials from Birmingham City Council. The Delegation then made a hail stop at Plummers House, a retirement and communal housing facility which serves citizens of Afro-Caribbean and Asian descent, among others.
Finally, Golding and team returned to the Legacy Centre for the last event of the Tour where they engaged in Public Engagement and a Cultural Celebration in honour of Jamaica’s Diamond Jubilee.

According to a statement from the People’s National Party, the UK leg of the Opposition’s Diaspora Tour was a tremendous success.
“Hundreds of Jamaicans came and met with the delegation, shared their ideas and renewed their commitment to working towards a better future for Jamaica,” the PNP stated,
“The Opposition looks forward to the next leg of its Diaspora Tour in Canada which is gearing up to be just as successful as the US and UK Tours.”
