Optimum Jamaica has been recognised as Runner-Up in the highly competitive Large Companies category for the 2026 American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Jamaica Award for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility, marking a major milestone for the company less than two years after establishing operations in Jamaica.
The recognition highlights Optimum Jamaica’s growing impact across youth empowerment, workforce development, accessibility, education, and community engagement, reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating meaningful and sustainable social change across the island. Since launching its Jamaican operations in 2023, Optimum Jamaica has rapidly expanded from approximately 400 employees to more than 900 team members while investing over JMD $20 million in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
“This recognition reflects our belief that business success must go hand in hand with social impact,” said Leon Davis, Senior Director, Site General Manager. “In less than two years, we have intentionally built a culture centred around people development, inclusion, education, and community transformation. We are honoured to be recognised among Jamaica’s leading corporate citizens.”
At the centre of Optimum Jamaica’s social impact strategy is youth development and employability training. Through its flagship partnership with HEART Trust/NSTA, the company hosts biannual internship programmes that provide young Jamaicans with hands-on experience in accounting, marketing, human resources, operations, and other corporate functions. Interns also receive training in financial literacy, digital marketing, leadership development, professional ethics, communication, and project management. Complementing these efforts is the company’s internal “ASCEND” programme, designed to strengthen employability and career-readiness skills for employees entering the workforce.
As part of its commitment to inclusion and workplace equality, Optimum Jamaica has implemented extensive accessibility and employee support systems for persons with disabilities, working parents, and vulnerable groups. These initiatives include wheelchair-accessible facilities, assistive technologies such as screen readers and voice-recognition software, ergonomic workstations, mentorship programmes, flexible work arrangements, and inclusive hiring partnerships. The company also maintains a robust HIV/AIDS workplace programme in partnership with organisations including JASL and Ashe TABS, combining employee sensitisation training, anti-discrimination protections, and confidentiality policies to foster a safe and inclusive work environment.
Optimum Jamaica’s community investment strategy also extends beyond the workplace through structured volunteerism, educational outreach, and partnerships with grassroots organisations. Employees actively participate in quarterly outreach initiatives, including book drives for Read Across Jamaica Day, Easter Bun distributions, back-to-school programmes, and mentorship initiatives. The company maintains formal partnerships with organisations such as Read. Speak. Lead Initiative, Yutes for Change Foundation, The Reggae Girls, Greater Change Foundation, and educational institutions, including the University of the West Indies’ Philip Sherlock Centre, where Optimum supports the development of emerging creatives and performing arts initiatives.
The AMCHAM Jamaica recognition further positions Optimum Jamaica as one of the country’s emerging leaders in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
