Newly sworn Members of Parliament (MPs) are to undergo an orientation session today.
The session will be presided over by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Juliet Holness and her deputy, Robert Morgan, the Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development with responsibility for Works.
Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Representatives, Phillip Paulwell and Clerk to the Houses of Parliament, Colleen Lowe will also be participating in the session, which starts at 10:00 this morning at George William Gordon House, 81 Duke Street, Kingston.
The Orientation Programme for MPs is designed to introduce (or reintroduce) MPs to parliamentary procedures, and the roles of key officers and the support they provide to parliamentarians.
This session will include presentations on the Constitution, Standing Orders, and the legislative process, along with opportunities to engage directly with the Clerk and senior parliamentary staff.
MPs will also complete important administrative requirements, such as access arrangements and official photographs, and will participate in guided tours of the parliamentary precincts.
