Have a family movie night in honour of Children’s Day

Every year, the month of May is celebrated in Jamaica as Child Month.

Throughout the month, parents and guardians are encouraged to engage and spend quality time with their children or wards.

As part of the month-long celebrations spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth, Jamaica observes National Children’s Day on the third Friday of the month.

To kickstart your National Children’s Day-induced family movie marathon, here are the best-animated films for your weekend binge.

1. Finding Nemo

Rating: General Audiences (G)

Creator: Andrew Stanton

Genres: Comedy, Adventure

Plot: Finding Nemo tells the tale of an overprotective clownfish, Marlin, and a blue reef fish, Dory, who together set off on a journey to find Marlin’s son, Nemo. Nemo, who has a foreshortened fin, swam too close to the surface to prove himself and is caught by a diver who later puts him in the aquarium of a dentist’s office.

2. Frozen

Plot: When the newly-crowned Queen Elsa accidentally uses her power to curse her home with infinite winter, her sister Anna teams up with a mountain man, Kristoff, his playful reindeer, Sven, and a snowman, Olaf, to battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

3. Shrek

Instead, a deal is made between the two, where Farquaad, who wants to become King, sends Shrek to rescue Princess Fiona, who is awaiting her true love in a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon.

4. Moana

Plot: Moana tells the tale of an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds.

5. The Incredibles

Plot: Married superheroes Mr Incredible and Elasticgirl are forced to assume mundane lives after the government bans all super-powered activities. While Mr Incredible loves his wife and kids, he longs to return to a life of adventure and gets a chance when summoned to an island to battle an out-of-control robot. Soon, Mr Incredible is in trouble, and it’s up to his family to save him.

6. Coco

Plot: Despite his family’s generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz.
