Jamaica’s World Championships silver medal winner Danniel Thomas-Dodd surprisingly failed to qualify for the final of the women’s shot put at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Friday (July 30).

Thomas-Dodd competed in Group A of the preliminaries, while compatriot Lloydricia Cameron, who participated in Group B also failed to progress beyond that stage.

Thomas-Dodd fouled her first attempt and threw a distance of 18.37 metres on the second, which was her best, as the third attempt was 18.24m, while Cameron did her best of 17.43 metres on her third attempt after doing 17.29 on her first and fouling the second.

China’s Lijiao Gong has the farthest distance of 19.46 metres going into Sunday’s final, with teammate Jiayuan Song following with 19.23 as Raven Saunders of the United States of America (USA) having the third-best with 19.22m.
