
Jamaica’s long jumpers Chanice Porter and Tissana Hickling failed to progress beyond the qualifying stage at the Tokyo Olympic Games Sunday morning (Saturday night Jamaica time).
Both performed well below their personal best, with Porter leaping 6.22 metres to finish 23rd of the 28 competitors, while Hickling did 6.19 to end 25th. Porter’s personal best is 6.77 metres while Hickling’s is 6.82.
Porter fouled her first jump before, did 6.13 metres on her second attempt and then improved with her third and final jump to 6.22. Hickling did 6.17 metres on her first attempt, fouled the second and the best of 6.19 on the third.
Porter competed in Group One and Hickling in Group Two, where Ivana Spanovic of Serbia and Malaika Mihambo of Germany also participated and finished with the top two jumps of 7.00 and 6.98 metres respectively that will enter the final.
The third best jump of 6.86 metres was produced in Group One by Brittney Reese of the United States.
The final will take place on Monday.
