Carey McLeod finished 24th from the 31 triple jumpers that started the qualification stage at the Tokyo Olympic Games Tuesday morning (Monday night Jamaica time) and failed to progress to the final.

McLeod’s best jump of 16.01 metres was done on his second attempt after doing 15.82 on his first. He fouled his third qualifying jump.

He ended 11th in Group A with 13 of the 15 jumpers in Group B all finishing with distances that are farther than McLeod’s best. Cuba’s Andy Diaz failed to report to the pit at the start of the event.

The top three jumpers going into Thursday’s final are Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo who did 17.71 metres, Necati Er of Turkey with a season-best of 17.13 metres and China’s Yaming Zhu with 17.11.
