More Jamaican greatness for Verzuz? Our Today readers favour award-winning Jamaican superstars Sean Paul and Shaggy.

A year after the historic dancehall Verzuz clash between heavyweights Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, Jamaicans are still clamouring for more but who exactly would be a good match-up?

For Our Today readers at least, it seems there is an overwhelming favour for a Verzuz bout between Shaggy and Sean Paul, as evidenced in a recent poll.

When asked, “A year after Bounty/Beenie, which Jamaican artistes [should next grace Verzuz]?”, 47 per cent of respondents voted in favour of ‘Mr Boombastic’ and ‘Chandapaul’ going head-to-head.

Another potential clash in the making, a short-lived one albeit, is one between young dancehall vixens Shenseea and Jada Kingdom—a Verzuz battle that received 24 per cent of votes.

New generation reggae superstars Chronixx and Protoje are also highly popular among Our Today readers, 23 per cent of which sided with a neo-roots bout.

Hundreds of Jamaicans voted in the Twitter poll commissioned by Our Today recently to mark the one-year anniversary of the Beenie Man-Bounty Killa Verzuz clash, which took place on May 23, 2020.

Verzuz was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic as a virtual DJ battle, similar in style to Jamaican sound clashes, with creators Timbaland and Swizz Beatz facing off in its first iteration through an Instagram Live broadcast in March.
