The second General Election Debate takes place on Tuesday (August 26), broadcast live beginning at 9:00 pm local time.
This one will focus on the economy with George Davis as the moderator and Our Today’s Al Edwards and Andrea Chisholm of TVJ posing questions.
The debate will not be in the traditional format, which sees the finance minister squaring off against the opposition spokesperson.
Tuesday will see a team approach with the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) represented by Minister of Finance Fayval Williams and supported by Dr Christopher Tufton (Minister of Health) and Dr . Dana Morris Dixon (Minister of Education). On the other side of the debating aisle, the People’s National Party (PNP) will be represented by opposition spokespersons Julian Robinson (finance) and Peter Bunting (citizen security & productivity), with further support from Kisha Anderson (PNP treasurer).
Speaking on Tuesday’s upcoming debate, Al Edwards said. “It is an honour to be asked to pose questions at the General Election Debate on the economy. Andrea Chisholm of TVJ is a very good journalist, and I think this debate should make for good viewing. The first one, for want of better phrasing, sparked a debate and is still the subject of much discussion.”

“I must add that it is particularly heartening to work on this with good media professionals and to come together as a fraternity. The Jamaica Debates Commission continues to do a splendid job, and it makes the national debates look so effortless and smooth. It really is a credit to their organisational and execution skills.”
