The football fraternity has been rocked again by another high-profile resignation, this time that of Owen Hill, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL).
Hill tendered his sudden resignation effective September 26, 2025, and it comes just two months after his boss, Christopher Williams, stepped down from the chairmanship in June.
Hill, who played football for a number of Premier League teams, including August Town, University of the West Indies, told Our Today, that the “writing was on the wall and he was “simply out of steam”.
“After three truly transformational years at the summit of the Professional Football Jamaica Limited and its flagship brand, Jamaica Premier League, I write to formally tender my resignation as Chief Executive Officer, effective 30 days from today, September 26, 2025,” he wrote in his letter obtained by Our Today.
“This decision, while difficult, comes after months of professional reflection, rooted in vision, clarity, gratitude, and an unwavering belief in the power of purposeful change.
“Growth, in its truest form, often requires reinvention, renewal, and the courage to evolve beyond familiar boundaries. It is within this context that I embrace my next chapter—one that will allow me to unlock new levels, explore fresh frontiers, and continue contributing to the development of our society in meaningful ways,” said Hill.
He continued: “Serving this league, its board, its clubs, and its passionate community of stakeholders has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. Together, we’ve built momentum and credibility —strengthening the JPL’s brand, commercial reach, broadcast footprint, and connection to fans both at home and across the diaspora. These successes are not simply milestones; they are markers of the extraordinary collective achievements we’ve shared to elevate Jamaican football.
“I am confident the league is well-positioned to build on this trajectory. The talent, resilience, and leadership across the organisation and our partners make me excited for what lies ahead. Change, while often accompanied by uncertainty, is also the crucible of excellence, and I believe this moment marks an opportunity for fresh energy to meet the next phase of the league’s ambitions.
“To ensure a seamless transition, I remain committed to supporting the Board and the team over the next 30 days in the required capacity, including onboarding a successor and finalising key handover processes. Beyond that, I will also avail myself to contribute in a consultative role should it be deemed beneficial.
“Thank you once again for the opportunity to serve, to grow, and to lead. I will always carry the experiences of this journey with pride, humility, and enduring appreciation.”
