Several acres of ganja weighing approximately 2,000 pounds were destroyed during a special operation in St Elizabeth to stem drugs-for-gun trade in the parish.

Approximately 100 pounds of compressed ganja was also found concealed within 12 board huts in the area.

The operation, supported by the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing, was executed yesterday (September 15) in Slipe district and surrounding communities.

According to the commanding officer for the parish, acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, the operation also aims to apprehend wanted individuals, seize illegal firearms, and eradicate the drug trade in St Elizabeth.

“The commitment of the security forces to the safety and well-being of the residents remains unwavering. This operation represents a significant step forward in addressing the critical issue of the drugs-for-gun trade, with a clear message that illegal activities will not be tolerated in St Elizabeth. The security forces remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” said Minto.
