Over 300 killed as murder rate trends 14% lower

More than 300 Jamaicans have been murdered across the island up to Saturday, April 13, according to the latest crime statistics by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Jamaica’s murder tally now stands at 311, a 13.9 per cent decline when compared to the 361 recorded at the same time last year.

St James, the St Catherine South Police Division, Westmoreland and the St Andrew South Police Division lead with the highest number of murders for the period, with 41, 29, 28 and 24, respectively.

Murders have been recorded in all 14 parishes so far.

There has been a 9.0 per cent increase in shooting for the period when compared to the 299 recorded in the same period last year.

Robberies and injuries are also on the increase. For the period, 281 injuries were recorded compared to 267 in the same period last year.

Some 195 robberies were recorded for the period this year when compared to193 last year.

There has been a decline in rape and break-ins.
