The Indiana Pacers made headlines recently with their draft night trade for Kam Jones, a scoring star from the Big East.
But just months after joining the team, Jones found himself in serious trouble early Monday morning following a brief car chase on Interstate 65 in Indianapolis.
Indiana State Police say a trooper spotted Jones driving erratically near the North Split and tried to pull him over. Instead of stopping, Jones initially took off, sparking a short pursuit that ended near the Fletcher Avenue exit in the Fountain Square neighbourhood. When he finally stopped, officers quickly took him into custody without further drama.
Jones, 23, cooperated fully after the chase and was booked at Marion County Jail, now facing charges for reckless driving and resisting law enforcement. Thankfully, no one was hurt and no property was damaged during the incident.
So far, Jones hasn’t played a single game for the Pacers due to a back injury. He was expected to make his professional debut with the team’s G-League affiliate, the Noblesville Boom, before eventually stepping onto the NBA court.
Now, this unexpected arrest may throw a wrench into what many hoped would be a promising start to his career.
During a press briefing at the team’s facility after practice on Tuesday, Jones apologised to the Pacers organisation and fans for his action.
