Jamaican dancehall artiste Rygin King has received a massive outpouring of support on the release of his new album, Therapy, which has left many listeners emotionally shaken by his deeply personal journey since being shot and paralyzed in 2020.

The 11-track album was released on Friday (September 9) but had already spawned a bonafide hit with its title track wracking up more than three million views on YouTube in just a month.

Second single, Broken, is expected be another hit with 341,000 views since Friday.

It was only last July that Rygin King acknowledged for the first time that he has been paralyzed since the gun attack in June 2020 that claimed the life of his manager’s wife.

The dancehall star, who shot to fame with his breakout hit, Tuff, was driving his car in Ashton, Westmoreland when gunmen started shooting at his vehicle. He, the woman, and a male passenger were all hit.

Since the incident, he had kept a low profile, even denying rumours that he had been paralyzed, until finally acknowledging his condition publicly this year.

That acknowledgement, it seems, was a part of his therapy, much like crafting what some are considering a musical masterpiece.

Now, on Twitter, Rygin King over the weekend became the talk of the town as listeners to the album praised its emotional depth.

Several persons were also deeply moved by video of Rygin King, born Matthew Smith, shedding tears as he became overwhelmed with emotion during a performance of one of his new tracks during his album release party on Friday.

Today Rygin King has shown that, even if you consider yourself tough, there’s nothing wrong with getting therapy.
