The Standing Finance Committee of the House of Representatives is to finalise its report on its examination of the 2024/25 National Budget of J$1.3 trillion.
The report will be tabled in the House along with the Appropriation Act, 2024 later that day. The Standing Finance Committee met for three days last week to examine the Estimates of Expenditure and other documents related to the 2024/2025 National Budget.
In keeping with the provisions of the Financial Administration and Audit Act, the Appropriation Bill, which authorises government spending and outlines how the funds will be spent, must be passed by the Parliament by March 31, 2024.

In commenting on the matter today, House Leader Edmund Bartlett explained: “The Standing Finance Committee began its meeting last week. Ministers explained the specific provisions of their respective portfolios, while other members were able to get a deeper appreciation of the programmes planned for the upcoming financial year and share their opinions on the estimates. This scrutiny is necessary for good governance and we will finalise our report tomorrow for tabling in the House before the commencement of the Budget Debate”.
