Particular Presence Technologies to host data security conference on compliance with Data Protection Act 2020

As the deadline for compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2020 (DPA) approaches, technology and software development firm, Particular Presence Technologies, in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and local legal firm, Carter Lindo, is hosting a data security conference themed “Security: AWS & The Data Protection Act, 2020” on Tuesday (March 28) at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

The conference will feature presentations from experts representing all three firms, with the aim of helping companies become fully compliant with the DPA, which was passed by the Government of Jamaica in June 2020 and came into effect on December 1st, 2021.

The two-year transition period for data controllers to become fully compliant with the requirements under the Act ends on November 30th of this year.

The conference is open to representatives from organizations of any size, from across industries who are committed to taking a meaningful approach to data security in their businesses.

Delton Phillips, managing director at Particular Presence Technologies, and Des-Angelo Pennant, solutions architect, will lead the line-up of presenters, both of whom have specialized AWS certifications in security.

They will be joined by AWS Partner Sales Manager, Ricardo Agostino, and AWS Solutions Architect, Tamrat Yossef, who will share their insights on implementing successful cloud security and workloads solutions. Grace Lindo, Partner at Carter Lindo, will present a legal perspective on the DPA.

In an interview, Phillips acknowledged the business opportunities in the data security space at this time and stressed the importance of sharing knowledge and raising awareness about data security among data controllers. “Our business relies heavily on developing partnerships and knowledge sharing, so we are always prepared to share helpful insights with our IT community,” he said.
