Rushawn Patterson and Rohan Rose, the two men were charged in connection with the murder of social media influencer Aneka ‘Slickianna’ Townsend, are seeking bail.

Patterson was formally charged for the murder of Townsend on November 11, based on forensic evidence gathered by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Rose, a 47-year-old security guard, was charged with misprision of a felony in relation to Townsend’s murder.

The two appeared before the St James Parish court today (November 23), where the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was a granted a request to have the matter transferred to the Home Circuit court in St James.

After the matter was transferred, Patterson’s attorney, Michelle Thomas, then made a bail application for her client at the circuit court later in the day, requesting that bail to be immediately considered.

The court however rejected the request on the basis that more information needed to be gathered.

Instead, a date of December 5 was given for Patterson to return to the circuit court for his bail application to be considered.

Rose’s attorney, Martin Thomas, also made a bail application that will be considered on November 28.

Facts of the case

The body of Townsend was discovered floating in the sea at Reading in St James, by beachgoers in the area on October 21.

Reports from the JCF are that Patterson picked up Townsend in Montego Bay on Thursday (October 20), about 7:30 pm.

The pair then visited a restaurant in Hanover, and later travelled to a guest house in St James. During the course of the night, an argument took place and Townsend was strangled by Patterson with a shoelace.

A post mortem examination was conducted on November 5 that determined that Townsend was murdered between 11:00 pm on October 20 and 9:00 am on October 21.

Rose is being accused of assisting Patterson or failing to notify authorities.
