A peaceful protest against gender-based violence is to be staged by a group of Jamaicans, led by women in the Half-Way-Tree Transportation Centre in St Andrew this Thursday (April 1).
The organisers of the protest, a group called Stand With Women Jamaica, is also inviting the public to take part or donate to its cause as it mobilises to demonstrate a strong rejection of violence against women and children.
The group is seeking to raise at least US$3,000 in its GoFundMe campaign, which was launched on Saturday. So far, with 28 donors, the fundraiser has amassed over US$1,040.
“We come to you as humble females as we plan our protest to stop the violence against women in Jamaica. We are asking for as much help as possible,” the group explained.
The sum would also go to the purchase of masks, hand sanitiser, water, microphones, milk (as a pepper-spray alleviant), and legal fees if actions are taken against protesters.

For those who wish to join the Thursday protest, persons are encouraged to wear black. The peaceful protest will begin at the transport centre with the group making its way around the Half-Way-Tree area.
Jamaicans, still reeling from the tragic disappearance and death of Khanice Jackson, are being also being asked to change their social media profiles to red in solidarity.
