In a significant stride towards industrial expansion and job creation, Pepsi Cola Jamaica (PCJ) has invested US$30 million or J$4.6 billion to build and launch a new production line at its manufacturing plant on Spanish Town Road in Kingston.

According to General Manager of PCJ, Alberto Ramirez, the expansion project took eight months to complete and is projected to increase production by 20 per cent within the next year.

While delivering his remarks at the official unveiling of the production line on Tuesday, Ramirez said the expansion is being done to meet growing demand for its diverse beverage portfolio, including iconic brands Pepsi, D&G, energy drinks Adrenaline Power and Blast, Ocean Spray flavoured water, and Tropics.

“Today, with the inauguration of our new production line, we are thrilled about the possibilities it brings. This milestone not only signifies our commitment to better serving our customers but also exemplifies our dedication to Jamaica,” said the PCJ general manager.

The strategic move not only enhances the company’s production capabilities, but is also set to create more employment opportunities for the Jamaican workforce. It will increase the company’s workforce by more than 25 per cent.

To ensure that it has a reliable stream of qualified workers, PCJ has partnered with the Caribbean Maritime University and Heart NSTA Trust, whose graduates will gain employment upon completion of their studies.

Anecia Levy, transformation manager at PCJ, said the company “will focus not only on production but also on innovation, with plans for exciting new product offerings to give diverse options to local and international markets. Jamaica will serve as the hub through Pepsi-Cola Jamaica’s entire portfolio of products and innovations, emphasising our commitment to the region.”

She also boasted about the company’s substantial strides in reducing its environmental impact, enhancing recycling initiatives, and promoting sustainable packaging.

He noted that PCJ is a major contributor to Jamaica’s economy and thanked the company for creating job opportunities for Jamaican youths through its partnerships with educational institutions.

“This approach is a shining example of how the public and private sectors can and should work together to strengthen our workforce and drive our nation’s development. This is a win-win scenario for all involved, including the potential to recruit new persons into our labour force. I am confident that Pepsi Jamaica will continue to grow and succeed in the years to come. The company has a strong track record of innovation and success,” said Holness.

The expansion was also welcomed by Member of Parliament for St Andrew Western, Anthony Hylton, who thanked PCJ for its investment in Jamaica. He noted that the investment will be of great benefit to the country and is an indication that Jamaica is a hub for industrial growth.

PCJ has been a part of the Jamaican market for more than 20 years. The company is known for its diverse range of soft drinks and beverages that have become favourites among Jamaicans.
