Pepsi-Cola Jamaica reinforced its commitment to communities in western Jamaica last weekend at the 2026 staging of the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run, as more than 70 members of the Pepsi-Cola Jamaica team participated in the 5.5-kilometre event.
The company’s participation complements its broader relief efforts in the region following Hurricane Melissa in October last year.
“Immediately after Hurricane Melissa, Pepsi-Cola Jamaica began supporting affected communities through meal partnerships, building material donations and product support,” stated Stephan Bennett, brand coordinator for Gatorade at Pepsi-Cola Jamaica.
“Our support did not stop when the storm passed, and events like Sigma allow us to continue standing with communities as they rebuild.”

This year’s staging of the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run, held under the theme “Run for the West”, brought together corporate partners, schools and thousands of participants in a show of national solidarity. Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted that the initiative continues to demonstrate what is possible when citizens and corporate Jamaica work together to strengthen education and community recovery.
The event raised $152 million to support rebuilding efforts at five schools severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa. They include Salt Marsh Primary and Infant School, Mayfield Primary and Infant School, Hopewell High School, Green Pond High School and Little London High School.
As one of the event’s sponsors, Gatorade, a Pepsi-Cola Jamaica brand, provided hydration at key points along the course, including near the two-kilometre and four-kilometre marks, and the finish area.

While some view Sigma as “just a 5K,” Bennett emphasised the importance of proper hydration in Jamaica’s climate.
“When you’re walking or running that distance in the sun, you’re losing fluids and electrolytes through sweat,” he explained.
“Water hydrates you, but isotonic drinks like Gatorade are designed with electrolytes to help recharge the body and support continued performance.”

Beyond race day, Bennett said Pepsi-Cola Jamaica will continue to assist communities affected by Hurricane Melissa through ongoing donations, partnerships, and outreach initiatives.
“Communities are still rebuilding,” he said. “And we intend to continue supporting them as they work to get back on their feet.”
