State-owned refinery, Petrojam, has slashed pump prices for a third-straight week, offsetting welcomed savings for Jamaican industry and the motoring public.
Petrojam, in its closely watched petroleum product price index, advised that 87-octane gasolene falls by $3.06 effective midnight Thursday (May 9), to open at a new baseline price of J$174.44.
Owing to price volatility induced by ongoing international conflict, this week’s cost reduction was largely consistent across the Petrojam index—being the most pronounced in 87-octane gasolene, kerosene oil and automotive diesel—revised downward by $4.50 and $4.47 respectively.
Asphalt, on the other hand, reverted to an upward price rise this week, up 96 cents in comparison to the past seven days.
It is expected retailers will add their respective mark-ups to the announced prices.
