Jamaican industry and the motoring public will benefit from a needed reprieve this week, as State-owned refinery, Petrojam, unveils a pricing reduction for nearly all commonly sought commodities.
In its closely watched petroleum product price index, Petrojam lowered 87-octane gasolene prices by J$3.06 effective midnight Thursday (November 2)—to open at a new baseline of J$179.96 per litre, after applied taxes.
Effectively reducing last week’s price hike, the pricing reversal was more pronounced for automotive diesel which fell J$4.50 lower than seven days prior, followed closely behind by cuts to the prices of 87-octane, 90-octane, heavy fuel oil and ultra-low sulphur diesel.
It is expected that retailers will add their mark-ups to the announced prices.
