

South Florida-based businessman Phillip Wong has made a generous donation of US$1 million to his alma mater, St George’s College.
This is not the first time Phillip Wong has supported his old school. He gives ten scholarships a year to deserving students. He has also donated two school buses.
In 2018, he made a significant donation in the form of the entrance of St George’s College with the sign that reads “ The Entry to Excellence”. That same year he was welcomed into the St George’s College Hall of Fame as a pupil from the graduating class of 1959. In that class was also Dr. Trevor Munroe, Ronnie Thwaites and Stephen Hill

No Jamaican has singularly made such a donation to their alma mater.
A contemporary of Phillip Wong’s said, “ He is a very generous and accomplished man. He is very appreciative of what St George’s College bestowed upon him. The more he gives the more prosperous he becomes. The late Pope Francis once said, ‘ Leave a legacy of good not goods – that’s Phillip Wong.
St George’s College is a Catholic High School in the Jesuit tradition located at Winchester Park, North Street, Kingston.
It was founded in 1850 by twenty-one Spanish Jesuits who had been exiled from Colombia.
St. George’s College has produced a number of luminaries including Don Wehby, Howard Mitchell, Christopher Berry, Richard Lake, Stephen Price Anthony Hill, Robert Hill, Abe Issa, John Issa and Lee Issa, Bruce Golding, John Barnes, Byron Lee and Ziggy Marley.
St George’s College is a public secondary school with approximately 1,470 students with 78 teachers and 30 support staff.
Phillip Wong heads Deltana, an importer of hardware goods. The company was founded in 1977 and has made a name for itself in Florida as a leading supplier of architectual hardware and building fixtures.
