The sun has set on a day well spent at the inaugural staging of GenXS’ Immortals Battlefield on Saturday, January 27, and all who went know it was the perfect mix of water, powder, soca, and sun at the Liguanea Club in St Andrew.

Fans of soca and supporters of GenXS got to experience a morning filled with food, water, and a great mix of soca and dancehall music from a range of local and international DJs.

The morning began with revellers lining up at different booths getting their party gear in order: waterproof phone cases, vitamin C, pregame shots, and a choice between local breakfast or fried chicken courtesy of KFC.

As the morning went on, it became an explosion of powder, water, and fun as hundreds of people partied hard.

Kandi King, carnival entrepreneur and owner of StocKING by Kandi, said: “This is a wonderful event and I’m really proud of the GenXS team. I think they have pulled off a great water party; Jamaica doesn’t have a lot of water parties. This is a good medium, and it’s not too hot, everyone looks like they’re having a good time and the water is great.”

The musical selection avoided the soca sin of stagnation, introduced diverse playlists ranging from multiple eras and islands, and gave the crowd a full soca experience before topping it off with the latest dancehall tracks.

Jamaica-born, Toronto-based DJ Gabby, one of the international DJs for the event, said: “I love this party! It’s exciting and very wet! I find the genre very fun and refreshing but I didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy the powder and water from behind the stage.

Speaking with Our Today about the event, Mala Morrison, managing director of GenXS Jamaica, said: “I think we did a really good job getting people into the spirit of carnival; the people have come out, the water is out, the sun is out, the powder is out and the music is out. We always want to cater to our patrons and ensure they get a proper carnival experience.”
