Against the backdrop of Earth Day 2024 and in keeping with this year’s theme ‘Planet vs Plastics’, the Sea the Change Foundation, alongside Sandals Resorts in the Montego Bay region, orchestrated a clean-upof the Jobson Bay Eco Beach Park in Trelawny.

Their collective efforts resulted in the removal of over 820 pounds of debris, including plastic bottles, from the shoreline – another step towards combating the staggering influx of plastic entering our oceans, which amounts to an estimated 14 million tons annually.

Enthusiastic volunteers were drawn from various organizations including Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean, the Sea the Change Foundation, the Kiwanis Club, JDF Coast Guard, Excellence Resorts, and the Olive Branches group.

Community relations officer of WPM Waste Management, Sharnon Williams, lent her support to the cause, expressing her team’s delight in partnering with Sandals and the Sea the Change Foundation for such a vital Earth Day initiative. She underscored the significance of their collaborative efforts, emphasising that beyond the immediate impact of beach clean-ups, they serve as powerful catalysts for raising awareness about responsible waste management practices.
