Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced a $25 million anti-gang incentive, which, it is hoped, will result in the dismantling of gangs and the arrest of all involved in the Cherry Tree Lane mass shooting on Sunday.

In announcing the initiative at a press briefing on Wednesday (August 14), Holness said a key focus of the initiative will be the apprehension of the persons behind the shooting in Four Paths Clarendon that left eight people dead — including a child — and nine others injured.

“We will provide $6 million for credible information and intelligence leading to the arrest and charge of any suspect involved in the killing, particularly those who were involved in pulling the trigger, and that is up to a maximum amount of $1 million per person,” Holness said.

Five million dollars will be provided to persons with information aiding in the eventual arrest and charging of the facilitators of the criminal act. The reward is a maximum of $1.5 million per person.

The prime minister said the police are particularly interested in the facilitators and organizers of the bloody shooting that left the already crime-weary nation in a state of shock.

The National Security Ministry is also offering a $4 million reward for information resulting in the recovery of the firearms used to commit the crime. A maximum of $500,000 is being offered per firearm seizure.

Some $5 million is being offered for information resulting in the securing of evidence in criminal gang investigations. The reward for this information is $250,000, which is being offered per case.

Meanwhile, an additional $5 million is being offered for information leading to the arrest and charge of anyone harbouring criminal gang members and associates. A maximum of $800,000 is being offered per person identified as gang members.
