With available data indicating that the previously implemented weekend lockdowns have resulted in a downward trend of positive COVID-19 cases, the Prime Minister has announced that there will be an extension of these measures with a few modifications for the upcoming three weeks.
Addressing the House of Representatives on Tuesday (April 13), Prime Minister Holness said that the following measures would be implemented effective Wednesday, April 14:
- The curfew for weekdays, Monday through Friday will remain at 8:00 pm nightly and will expire at 5:00 am the following morning.
- Weekend curfews beginning Saturday, April 17, will see a 4:00 pm curfew on Saturdays and a 2:00 pm curfew on Sundays, which will end at 5:00 am the following morning.
These modifications are an update of the previous Saturday 12 noon curfew and no movement Sundays.
During the period of the modified weekend lockdowns, businesses will not be required to close at mid-day on Friday.
According to the Prime Minister despite the fact that the tightened restrictions over the last few weeks have helped to slow the rate of COVID-19 infections on the island, “our positivity rate and hospitalisations remain too high”, necessitating the extension of COVID-19 restrictions.
