After receiving his first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Monday (March 22), Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he and his wife Juliet Holness have now received their second jabs, completing the vaccination process.

Holness received his second dose of the vaccine at the Good Samaritan Inn in downtown Kingston early this afternoon (May 28), thanks to the “highly proficient” Nurse Ellis who administered the shot.

In a tweet post-jab, Holness said he was happy to have received the second dose of the vaccine, as it “triggers the immune system in the body to develop the natural capability to fight the virus if the person is exposed to it”.

He advised that, after receiving his jab, he was told that the immunity does take some time to build so, “I am maintaining all the protocols to prevent infection and spread”.

Holness added that “as more vaccines become available, we encourage Jamaicans to make arrangements to be inoculated #Covid19 #Vaxprotects #vaxsaveslives”.

First dose vaccinations continue for persons age 50 years and older, healthcare workers, members of the Jamaica Defence Force and Jamaica Constabulary Force, as well as staff members from the Department of Correctional Services, PICA and Jamaica Customs Agency.

Persons wishing to be vaccinated are reminded that they must make an appointment through the Ministry’s website at www.moh.gov.jm, or through the National Vaccination Hotline at 888-ONE-LOVE (888-663-5683).
