Senator Peter Bunting, opposition spokesman on national security, has condemned the Thursday night (October 20) murder of yet another policeman, Corporal Oliver Mullings, in Trench Town.

Reports are that, about 11:00 pm, Mullings was fatally shot during a confrontation with gunmen in the area.

He is the second policeman to be murdered over the past week, following last Saturday’s murder of Constable Brian Martin, who was just 22 years old.

Bunting, in a statement yesterday (October 21), shared that he was deeply saddened and disturbed by the slayings.

“(Thursday) night’s incident further demonstrates the callous nature of these criminals who casually snuffed out the life of an exemplary officer.”

“It is especially abhorrent when the police who are carrying out their duties are met with such violence and hostility,” Bunting said.

“(Thursday) night’s incident further demonstrates the callous nature of these criminals who casually snuffed out the life of an exemplary officer.”

He also acknowledged the hardworking policemen and women who continue to put their lives on the line to protect their country and called on the Government to make a more concerted effort to bring crime under control.

The People’s National Party expressed condolences to the Jamaica Constabulary Force and to the family and friends of Mullings and Martin.
