The People’s National Party (PNP) constituency office in South East St Catherine was set on fire yesterday (May 4) with allegations circulating that disgruntled comrades caused the blaze.
It is theorized that the party members were angry about the selection of medical doctor, Alfred Dawes to represent the constituency.
Poll findings declared that Alrick Campbell, deputy mayor of Portmore was the favourite to represent the constituency. However, party leader Mark Golding said that Dawes was to represent the people in the next election.
Golding’s decision was met with backlash.
Reports are that protesters burned images of Dawes in protest against the party’s decision to not choose Campbell. There have also been protests about the selection.
