The People’s National Party has acknowledged with “deep regret” the passing of Desmond Clarke, ‘a committed patriot and former President of the Jamaica National Movement’.
Desmond Clarke played a pivotal role in strengthening the voice and visibility of the Jamaican diaspora. His leadership reflected an abiding love for Jamaica and an unwavering commitment to advancing the interests of Jamaicans at home and abroad.
“Through his work, he strengthened bonds within the diaspora community and contributed meaningfully to the civic and social engagement of Jamaicans overseas. His stewardship of the Jamaica National Movement demonstrated his belief in organised action, community upliftment, and the power of collective advocacy.
“The PNP recognises the important role that members of the diaspora play in national development, and we honour Clarke’s contribution in this regard. His passing represents a significant loss to the community he served so faithfully,” the PNP said in a release.
The party added: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the Jamaican diaspora community in New York and beyond. May they find comfort in his legacy of service and in the many lives he touched.
“May his soul rest in peace.”
