PNP extends condolences to Turkey, Syria amid rising death toll from disastrous earthquake

The People’s National Party (PNP) has issued a statement expressing sadness at reports of the catastrophic earthquakes in the Republic of Türkiye and Syria that occurred early Monday (February 6).

The earthquake and its aftershocks, ranging magnitudes of 6.7 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, have claimed the lives of several thousands of people and injured many others.

Reports from the Turkish capital city Ankara, are that the death toll has risen to 6,200. As a result, States of Emergency are set to be declared in over 10 provinces in Turkey for three months as the country recovers from the disaster.

“The PNP commends world leaders from the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and India, among others, who have pledged the support of their country to assist Turkey with its rescue and recovery missions as a result of the earthquake and implore other states with resources to assist in any way that they can. We send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, those affected and to the people of Turkey and Syria during this difficult time.” the statement said.
