The People’s National Party (PNP) has tonight (August 9) hailed Lisa Hanna, the veteran member of parliament for South East St Ann who this afternoon revealed her intention to step away from representational politics.
In a statement confirming Hanna has indicated she intends to walk away ahead of the next general election, the PNP said it wished to thank her for her years of service to the party and the people of South East St Ann.
The party noted that she has committed to serving the constituency through to the end of her term.
PNP President Mark Golding, to whom Hanna’s letter outlining her intentions had been addressed, expressed appreciation to his one-time party leadership rival for her willingness to continue serving as the spokesperson for foreign affairs and foreign trade, and for her continued commitment to the party and Jamaica.
“Cde Hanna’s commitment to Jamaica remains an inspiration to our youth and those looking to enter representational politics,” Golding said.
“I look forward to continue working with Cde Hanna on areas in which she is passionate and has achieved significant results.”
The PNP said it would work closely with the PNP Executive of South East St Ann to arrange a suitable occasion to honour Hanna and show appreciation for what it said was the tremendous work she has done.
Said the PNP: “Representational politics is a labour of love and Cde Hanna has certainly given her best in service to her country. The entire Jamaica should join us in thanking her for her service and wishing her the very best as she charts her way forward.”
