The People’s National Party (PNP) has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of councillor-candidate for the Friendship Division in Western Westmoreland, Maxine Salabie.

Reports are that Salabie was at a meeting in Savanna-la-Mar today when she left because she fell ill. Moments later, she collapsed and was taken to the hospital.

In a statement via its social media platforms, the PNP said it was deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden passing.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones. Her spirit and dedication to her community, party, and country will never be forgotten. Rest in Power, Comrade Salabie,” the statement read.

Salabie recently replaced Tyrone Guthrie, the former councillor-candidate for the division. Guthrie is facing charges for abduction and rape of a 16-year-old.
