The People’s National Party (PNP) has expressed sincere condolences to the Peart Family as they mourn the loss of matriarch and World War II veteran Dorothy Beatrice Mary Peart.

Born in London, England in 1921, Mrs Peart celebrated her 101st birthday on May 10, 2022, making her the second longest-living World War II female veteran alive before she died yesterday (November 30).

Dorothy Peart was the wife of the late Comrade Ernest Peart, MP and the mother of former members of parliament Dean Peart and Michael Peart and former manager of inflight services at Air Jamaica, Christine Steele. She served in the Royal Air Force from 1941 to 1946 under Britain’s Women’s Auxiliary Air Force where she was stationed underground at the RAF Headquarters in Stanmore, London.

“Although Mrs Peart was not a politician, she was very involved in the development of the parish of Manchester.”

After the war, Mrs Peart came to Jamaica in 1949 with her husband and eldest child, Michael, where they settled in Manchester.

“The Peart family has made outstanding contributions to the development of Jamaica through service in various public offices,” the PNP said in a statement.

“Although Mrs Peart was not a politician, she was very involved in the development of the parish of Manchester. She served as secretary of the Manchester Golden Age Development Company as well Curphy Home in Manchester, which is a haven for Jamaican ex-servicemen and women.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dorothy Peart, and offer our sincerest condolences to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. May her soul rest in peace.’
