The Patriots National Council, the second-highest decision-making body within the PNP Patriots, the young professional affiliate group of the People’s National Party (PNP), has pledged continued support of the PNP leadership.

During a meeting on Tuesday, September 09, the council unanimously voted to congratulate and endorse the continued leadership of President Mark Golding and General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell.

“This strong endorsement reflects the Patriots’ unwavering support for the party’s leadership as it builds on its recent electoral successes and charts a bold path forward for Jamaica,” the Patriots said in a release.

The meeting came less than a week after the party lost the general election on Wednesday, September 3, capturing 28 parliamentary seats to the Jamaica Labour Party’s 35. However, the PNP made significant gains, going into the election with only 14 seats.

In a detailed analysis of the election results, the Patriots expressed their disappointment in not achieving their ultimate goal of forming the government. However, they recognised that the PNP made significant progress, securing 14 additional seats in the House of Representatives, effectively doubling their success compared to the 2020 general elections.

“In contrast, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) experienced a corresponding loss of 14 seats, indicating a notable shift in voter sentiment. These results underscore the growing public confidence in the PNP’s vision and policies, solidifying the party as a strong and credible force for Jamaica’s future,” the Patriots said.

“President Mark Golding’s standout performance in the recent leadership debate against Prime Minister Andrew Holness was a game-changer, where he decisively outperformed his opponent. Golding demonstrated exceptional poise, intellectual strength, and visionary leadership, effectively dismantling misconceptions and reshaping public perception of his readiness to serve as Jamaica’s prime minister.

“This moment, along with Golding’s constant presence on the campaign trail and effective speeches at political rallies, has invigorated the party’s base and broadened its national appeal,” the group said.

The Patriots emphasise the critical need for a steady hand at the helm to navigate the party through these times. “We have full confidence in our President, Mark Golding, and General Secretary, Dr Dayton Campbell, to provide the stability necessary to move forward with unity and purpose. We fully support President Golding and General Secretary Campbell, whose leadership has already demonstrated a clear path toward renewal and victory,” stated Rev Dr Paul Blake, President of the PNP Patriots. “At this moment, our priority should be to thoroughly review the results and strategise ways to enhance our efforts moving forward,” Blake added.

The Patriots’ General Secretary Davalle Grant added: “The progress we’ve made is a testament to the trust our people have in us. Let’s build on this foundation with unwavering resolve. In challenging times, steady leadership is our greatest asset; the PNP Patriots are united in this belief.”
