In-limbo DPP Paula Llewellyn.

The People’s National Party (PNP) says its attorneys have written to the Public Service Commission to request clarity on the specific basis an acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has been appointed.

Constitutional law firm Hylton Powell, representing Phillip Paulwell and Peter Bunting, has sent a letter to commission chair Patricia Sinclair-McCalla requesting clarification on the specific basis for the appointment of the acting DPP, following the ruling by the Full Court on April 19.

The Full Court declared the second extension of the tenure of DPP Paula Llewellyn unconstitutional, null and void.

The PNP says that by this judicial decision, there has been a vacancy in the office of DPP since September 2023, though contrastingly, statements from the Attorney-General’s chambers would suggest otherwise.

The Opposition says it is dedicated to ensuring that appointments within key public offices are conducted
transparently and adhere strictly to the law.

“We urge the public to review the attached letter, which articulates the concerns raised and seeks to ensure that the Public Service Commission’s decisions are aligned with the decision of the Full Court.”
