Member of Parliament for St Andrew Western and legal advisor to the People’s National Party (PNP), Anthony Hylton, stated that the party will not be deterred by Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s decision to pursue legal action against senior PNP members for defamation.

Holness’s legal team claims that the PNP made unfounded statements regarding when Holness came into awareness of an Integrity Commission probe concerning illicit enrichment during a press conference on September 19, 2024.

However, Hylton, in a response on September 20, emphasised that the threat of a lawsuit will not distract the PNP from its commitment to advocating for the rights of Jamaicans.

“The People’s National Party will continue to promote and defend the rights of the Jamaican people to good governance, transparency, and probity in public life,” he said.

He reiterated that the party remains resolute in fulfilling its responsibilities as the opposition, regardless of the legal challenges posed.
