People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for South East St Elizabeth, Norman Scott, says he has filed a police report following a confrontation at a polling station in the constituency on Election Day.
The incident unfolded at the BB Coke High School polling location, where Scott was observed voting.
A Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) indoor agent later accused him of assault.
She alleged that Scott had remained inside the polling station for more than five minutes, prompting her to approach him. According to her account, she raised her hand to him and was then assaulted.
The woman further claimed that JLP supporters mobbed Scott after the encounter, and that she herself had to step in to “save him” from the angry crowd.
Scott has strongly denied assaulting the woman, insisting that the narrative is “malicious and fabricated” and aimed at damaging his reputation. He maintained that it was in fact he who was attacked by a mob of JLP supporters at the polling station.
According to Scott, he was rescued by his close protection officer, who led him into a building on the premises. Soldiers later escorted him to his vehicle so he could leave safely. He said the only physical confrontation occurred when supporters tried to block his movements outside the station.
“I stand for peace, respect and the democratic process,” Scott said, adding that while he regretted that the woman was injured during the incident, he had no part in harming her.
The mayor has since reported the matter to the police. Authorities have not confirmed whether charges will be pursued. Veteran attorney at law Charles Advoket Ganga-Singh was retained to handle proceedings on behalf of Scott.
