The People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) says it stands in full solidarity with the people of Cuba and welcomes the call for humanitarian assistance at this critical time.

As the Cuban people face severe economic and social challenges, the provision of humanitarian aid is not a political act – it is a moral one. Jamaica has always upheld the principles of regional cooperation, human dignity, and mutual respect among nations. Extending support to our Caribbean neighbours, particularly Cuba, reflects the spirit of solidarity that has long defined our region.

The opposition’s youth arm also condemned the reported threat made by a US senator against Jamaica.

Such statements, the PNPYO argued, whether explicit or implied, undermine the principles of diplomacy, mutual respect, and international cooperation. Jamaica’s foreign policy decisions must be guided by its national interest, its regional commitments, and its humanitarian principles – not by external pressure or intimidation.

Jamaica has a proud history of principled foreign policy rooted in independence, regionalism, and the defence of small-state sovereignty.

“As young leaders and patriots, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting Jamaica’s right to engage in humanitarian efforts consistent with international law and Caribbean unity,” said the PNPYO.

“We call on all stakeholders, both locally and internationally, to prioritise humanitarian cooperation over political hostility and diplomacy over division. The PNPYO remains steadfast in defending Jamaica’s sovereignty and in promoting solidarity across the Caribbean,” the organisation added.
