The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Financial Investigations Division (FID) have issued a joint statement confirming that the Chairman of the Police Officers Association (POA), Senior Superintendent of Police Wayne Cameron, has been formally charged in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving POA funds.

The charges follow a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) after what authorities described as a detailed and protracted financial investigation conducted by the FID in collaboration with the JCF and other relevant agencies.

The probe, which spanned several months, examined the management and application of funds under the control of the POA over a defined period.

SSP Cameron has been charged with five counts of fraudulent conversion and six counts of larceny as a servant, arising from the alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the Police Officers Association.

In light of the DPP’s ruling, prosecutorial steps have now been taken. However, the JCF and FID said it would be inappropriate to comment further on the substance of the allegations or the evidence, as the matter is now before the courts.

The agencies acknowledged that more detailed information could not be provided earlier, noting that transparency must be balanced against the need to avoid prejudicing investigations or judicial proceedings.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law, due process, transparency and accountability, and stressed that SSP Cameron is entitled to the presumption of innocence. His court date has been set for February 12, 2026, and he has been removed from frontline duty.

The public will be kept informed as the judicial process unfolds.
