Detectives assigned to the Port Maria Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) have formally charged 22-year-old Patrick Walters with the murder of 20-year-old D’Jonnay Graham.
These charges were laid as a result of an investigation into the fatal shooting and attempted suicide on Wednesday, June 25, at Graham’s home in Richmond, St Mary.
Constable Walters was charged on Monday, July 21, following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Reports are that at about 9:15 pm, Graham and Walters had a dispute during which Graham was shot. The police were summoned, and on their arrival, both Graham and Walters were found with gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital, where Graham was pronounced dead and Walters was hospitalised.
A file on the matter was prepared and submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a ruling. On Thursday, July 17, the DPP ruled that Constable Walters be charged with the offences of murder and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Walters was subsequently released from the hospital in the custody of the police, where he was later charged.
The incident was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB).
