The St Mary police have uncovered a large-scale, car-stealing operation involving over 40 vehicles across two sites in the parish.
According to the authorities, they received reports of a stolen Toyota Axio and Mark X in the Oracabessa and Three Hills area of St Mary on Sunday, January 20. The owner of the Axio tracked the vehicle, which led the police to an illegal site in Rocky Hill in the parish.
A total of 35 stolen and dismantled vehicles, predominantly grey Axios, were found in the area.
Another batch of seven scrapped vehicles was found at a nearby location, with some still retaining their licence plates.
Through swift response, the police, using the tracking device, was also able to recover the stolen Axio and Mark X. The owners were notified and have since reclaimed their vehicles.
The police are urging anyone with information or persons who are victims of car theft to call the Port Maria police at 876-994-2333.
