The Central Committee of the Jamaica Police Federation has voted to suspend footing the legal fees for its interdicted former Chairman Corporal Rohan James which is now creating a stir within the organisation.
The decision was made yesterday during a meeting of the Central Committee, just a day before James was due back in the Supreme Court where he is challenging his interdiction.
James has been under interdiction since July 2023 for criticizing the Police High Command at a funeral service for a slain police officer for failing to have overtime payments made to rank-and-file police personnel, despite government approval.
A police source told Our Today that members feel that James has been abandoned when he most needed support, especially because he was speaking out in defence of colleagues.
It is understood also that a call is being made for an audit of the federation’s funds to determine if money is available to support James’ legal fees, among other things.
Meanwhile, Chairman Arleen McBean has reached out to the federation membership asking for donations to help cover James’ legal fees which is at $2 million at the moment.
