Police Constable R Gordon has filed a complaint of occasioning bodily harm against fellow police personnel following a car chase drama from Mandela Highway that ended at Duhaney Park.

Gordon, who is attached to the St Catherine South Division, said he was a passenger in a private motor car owned and driven by Constable O Lindo when they were pounced upon and beaten.

According to the report obtained by Our Today, last Wednesday (December 25), Gordon and Lindo were travelling along the Mandela Highway in a 2010 grey Toyota Fielder when upon reaching the vicinity of the overhead bridge near the Portmore traffic light, they observed a vehicle tooting its horn behind them. They continued to drive and were chased by the vehicle.

Upon reaching near the Ferry Police Station, the vehicle overtook them and stopped in front of them at which point, Constable Gordon said he noticed it was a marked police vehicle.

Constable Lindo reported that he slowed and pulled to the left and they stopped to his right at which point he identified himself as a police officer.

But the officers in uniform began exiting their vehicle “with aggression and hostility” which caused Constable Lindo to drive off.

He was making his way to the Duhaney Park Police station when the service vehicle again caught up to them and blocked their path at the vicinity of Cooreville Gardens along Washington Boulevard.

According to Constable Gordon, three police in uniform exited the service vehicle and he along with Constable Lindo declared that they were police officers again.

The report, said at that point, Constable Gordon, the passenger  was assaulted by two police officers in uniform and Constable Lindo was approached by the third uniform officer and commanded to exit the vehicle.

“Cons. Lindo again identified himself as police and the officer again instructed him to step out the vehicle. He then handcuffed Cons. Lindo on his right arm and began pulling his wrist against the car door.

“Meanwhile the other two officers reportedly pulled Cons. Gordon from the vehicle and began to assault despite his declaration that he was a police and the holder of a licensed firearm,” the report stated.

“One of the officers held both of his hands and the other pushed his hand in Cons. Gordon’s waistband and removed the loaded firearm from his inside holster and continued to assault him, leaving him with bruises, pain and swelling to his neck, face, left arm and leg, his torso and his clothes torn”.

“They then placed him in handcuffs and took his cellular phone from him as he made a call to Cpl. K. Morris at the Duhaney Park Police Station for assistance.

“The incident continued until the arrival of Inspector M. Graham, SAS DDO for the shift who was contacted. Insp. Graham then removed the members to the Duhaney Park Police Station where a report was made by both Constables. Insp. Anderson, DDO for the St. Catherine South Division was informed of the incident,” the report concluded.
