The police say they have strong evidence that 29-year-old Danielle Anglin, the missing teacher of Hellshire Park, Portmore was murdered and her body dumped somewhere in Clarendon.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Crime, Fitz Bailey told the media today that the lawmen have a suspect in custody, who has confessed to murdering Anglin. He said the police have a strong case that the suspect, who was held last week and has been in custody since perpetrated the crime.

The senior cop remarked that the evidence so far gathered is indicative that Anglin was murdered on the same day she went missing on Monday, May 13. DCP Bailey confirmed that the lawmen have a suspect in custody, and they have a strong case that he perpetrated the crime.

Police confident they have the right man

The senior crime fighter is confident they have the right man in custody based on video surveillance and forensic evidence which links him and the car he drives to Anglin leaving and not returning to date. However, DCP Bailey was unable to confirm that the skeletal remains found in Salt River, Clarendon were that of the missing teacher.

The lawmen are awaiting forensic examination of the body to determine whether the skeleton remains are that of Anglin. The body was found during an operation in the area that was conducted by Clarendon police jointly with investigators from the St Catherine South division.

DCP Bailey indicated that the preliminary findings from the police probe indicate that Anglin was picked up by a motor vehicle, which is a part of the ‘In-drive’ ride-sharing platform. He said the vehicle was picked up by Jamaica Eye, which shows she was picked up and taken to a location to Salt River in Clarendon and based on analysis, it is believed she was killed and her body dumped.

“We are satisfied that the police have the right person,” DCP Bailey declared noting that it is just a matter of time for processes to take their courses before formal charges are laid.

DCP Bailey reported that the suspect will be subjected to a formal interview in the presence of his attorney, emphasising that the motor vehicle he drives was processed and is awaiting lab results before moving further on the matter.

Speaking on the radio earlier today DCP Bailey said the suspect was arrested and convicted for rape in Jamaica in 2015 and was also convicted for sexual offence in Antigua and was later deported to Jamaica.
