A probe has been launched by the police following the death of a male prisoner at the Chapelton lockups in Clarendon on Monday morning, June 3.
Reports are that about 3:15 am, police on duty heard unusual sounds coming from one
of the cells and made checks.
The male prisoner was seen with a wound, which was reportedly inflicted by other inmates.
He was transported to the May Pen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Commissioner of Police, Dr. Kevin Blake, has since directed that the Inspectorate and Professional Standard Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force commence an immediate probe into the circumstances of the prisoner’s death.
