Two arrested and charged

 The St. James Police have made a gun and large ammunition find following one of several operations in the parish, arresting and charging two persons in connection.

The lawmen seized over 400 rounds of ammunition and a firearm, whilst detaining 32-year-old Jermaine Graham, deliveryman of Roehampton District in Anchovy, St. James and 23-year-old Shamoy Staple, teller of Paradise, Norwood also in the parish.

They were subsequently charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition, stockpiling of prohibited weapons, possession of a prohibited weapon, dealing in prohibited weapons and trafficking in prohibited weapons. The charges stem from a police operation on Independence Day.

Police report that at about 2:50 pm on August 6, a team from the National Strategic Anti-Gang Division, acting on intelligence, intercepted a white Toyota Voxy motor vehicle along Fairfield Road with Graham and Staple aboard. The vehicle was searched.

Four ammunition boxes containing 200 9-millimetre rounds were reportedly found on the floor on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Graham and Staple were taken into custody.

They were formally charged following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of their attorneys.
