A multi police unit raid in Mount Sinai district, Llandewey, St Thomas have led to the seizure of over 1600 pounds of cocaine on Tuesday May 5.
Two men from the parish have been arrested in connection with the big drugs bust. The narcotics have a street value of over J$400 million
Reports from the police are that at about 7:30 p.m., the Divisional Intelligence Unit, Operational Support Team, Divisional Fugitive Apprehension Team, Beat Officer Patrol Division in St Thomas and the Area 5 Area Fugitive Apprehension Team conducted a targeted operation at a premises in the area.
During a search, 23-packages were found at the back of a commercial generator in a cargo container. Further checks revealed a powdery substance resembling cocaine.
They were seized, and the occupants were taken into custody. Their identities are being withheld pending further investigation.
Last month a joint operation (JDF and police) intercepted a vessel about 20 miles off Portland Bridge, seizing over 1,100 kg of cocaine with a street value exceeding J$700 million.
A Colombian national and two Jamaicans were charged. The amount of cocaine seized in the first four months of 2026 has already surpassed the highest annual seizure in the last decade (2,200 kg in 2024).
